Compassion in Action: Elderly Care Outreach at Modupe Elderly Home

At Dora-Care Behavioral Foundation, we believe that mental health and well-being must be nurtured across every stage of life. This commitment was reflected in one of our Elderly programs, Elderly Care Outreach, at the Modupe Elderly Home in Maryland, Lagos, Nigeria, where we engaged over 30 residents and their caregivers in a day of meaningful connection, care, and holistic support. The visit was thoughtfully designed to go beyond routine interaction, creating a warm and engaging environment that promoted both emotional and cognitive well-being. Residents participated in a series of structured activities, including cognitive games to stimulate memory and mental agility, light physical exercises to encourage mobility, and dance therapy sessions that brought joy, movement, and social connection.

At the heart of the outreach was a human connection. Through active listening and compassionate engagement, we created a safe space where residents felt seen, valued, and heard. These moments of presence and empathy are essential in enhancing the psychosocial well-being of older adults. In addition to these activities, the team provided essential items and offered encouragement to caregivers, recognizing their vital role in sustaining quality care and dignity for the elderly. This outreach reinforces our belief that elderly care must extend beyond physical needs to include emotional support, social inclusion, and purposeful engagement. At Dora-Care, we are committed to building communities where older adults are not only cared for but truly valued, because dignity in aging is not a privilege; it is a right.
